Alexandria’s biggest problem is fixing police-citizen relationship

Alexandrian Governor Essam Salem said lack of security along with excessive demands and requests from citizens is slowing down work in Alexandria. He also said he is working from a small office and does not have proper headquarters.

Salem said the biggest problem that Alexandria faces is fixing the relationship between the police and citizens living in slum areas. Salem called for citizens to cooperate with the army who he said protected the revolution and is trying to achieve the demands of the citizens.

Salem said he is trying to use the law to achieve social justice, but says there should be no expectations. He said this at the monthly meeting of the local council in Alexandria, headed by Judge Ahmed Awad, and attended by the deputy governor of Alexandria Mahmoud Atiq and members of the local council. This was the first meeting with the new governor of Alexandria after the 25 January Revolution.

Salem said he inspected slum areas and ensured as well that the demands of the citizens will be met, including the provision of bread and butane and moving homes that are on the verge of collapse to Nagaa Arabi.
