Egypt will not cancel its nuclear project, said the country’s Nuclear Power Plants Authority. The statement was made to international companies expressing their desire to execute the project.
According to the Ministry of Electricity, scientists of nuclear stations told representatives of the Korean company of KIPCO, the U.S. Westinghouse, the Chinese CNNC, The French Walstom, and the Truma Russian Company that they still do not know the date of the bid. The date, they said, will be determined in the coming weeks. They said the date is an independent decision that cannot be taken by the Ministry of Electricity alone.
Sources blamed Egypt’s current economic and political conditions for the delay and emphasized Egypt's seriousness in establishing a nuclear station and its desire to cooperate with other companies.
The sources said the Ministry expressed its concern that delaying the meeting might affect Egypt's reputation in the international nuclear market.
The five companies, however, told the Ministry of Electricity they still desired to participate in bidding on Egypt's first nuclear project.
