Egypt’s ruling military council called yesterday on the Egyptian people to disregard false accusations against the military’s leadership. The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), charged with the country’s administration when the former president resigned on Feb. 11, said there have been attempts to spread false news against the leaders of the council to fuel sedition between citizens and the military leadership.
In a statement published on the SCAF’s Facebook page, the council denied the authenticity of other websites’ publications, saying such websites work toward destabilizing Egypt. The council said the door is open for all honest political powers to express their opinions freely and democratically.
The council accused suspects of directing their followers to infiltrate the demonstrations to provoke the armed forces, which may lead to clashes between military forces and protesters.
The council said suspects are working against Egypt's interest by destabilizing the military institution. Egypt's stability and security is the cornerstone in the current critical stage of Egypt's history, the statement added. The council warned of these elements which exert efforts to divide the country.
