Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) is keen to establish a profound national dialogue to promote a civil state, according to Egypt’s Ambassador to the United States. The statements came during a meeting with prominent Christian representatives of the Egyptian community.
The representatives expressed their desire to establish a civil state and that the decision will guarantee the right to vote and equality among all Egyptians, regardless of their religious preferences.
The current government exerts great effort into bringing stability and safety to the citizens, Ambassador Sameh Shoukry said in response to a question about the reality of Egyptian status quo.
Representatives voiced their concern about the latest sectarian strife in Egypt. However, Shoukry assures them SCAF is keen on national unity and punishes anyone who triggers sectarian violence, and even anyone who continues sectarian clashes and try to divide between Muslims and Christians.
Shoukry called on all representatives to participate with their experiences and ideas to continue developing what the January 25 Revolution began.
The SCAF has been charged with Egypt’s administration since its former leader stepped down on Feb. 11.
